Traditional Textures & Structure in Wantage
The ambition for this garden in Wantage was to create a space with a strong, classic structure and a distinctly English country feel. The client wanted a practical area for entertaining that felt seamlessly connected to more rustic, textured pathways and planting beds, creating a garden that was both functional and full of traditional character.
The finished project is a beautifully balanced garden that successfully blends strong, clean lines with the timeless charm of the English countryside. The interplay between the smooth patio, the rustic oak, and the textured Cotswold stone creates a landscape rich in character and visual interest. It is now a highly functional and inviting garden that feels both established and full of classic style.
Our Solution
We began by installing a durable Buff Concrete slab patio, providing a solid and versatile base for outdoor seating. To add a sense of height, intimacy, and architectural interest, a timber pergola was constructed over the patio, creating a perfect framework for future climbing plants.
To introduce a rustic, structural element, we built raised planting beds using solid oak sleepers. These robust beds provide a defined and elevated space for planting, adding a warm, natural texture that contrasts beautifully with the stone.
A charming Cotswold stone garden path was then created to meander through the garden. To give it a crisp and traditional finish, the path was bordered with carefully placed beck stones, enhancing its rustic appeal and creating a delightful journey through the space.
