A Modern Transformation in Abingdon

The challenge presented by this Abingdon garden was a common one: a sloped and underutilised space that lacked both functionality and a clear sense of design. The client envisioned a sophisticated, multi-level garden that would provide distinct areas for relaxation and planting, transforming a difficult incline into an elegant architectural feature.

Our Solution

Our solution began with a significant feat of garden construction and engineering. We undertook a careful excavation of the existing slope to create a series of structured, level tiers.

To provide a classic and robust framework, we built solid retaining walls from traditional brick. For the main patio and steps, we chose a striking contrast: a luminous, fluorescent white porcelain paving. This premium, contemporary material was selected not just for its stunning clean lines, but for its exceptional durability and low-maintenance properties.

Every detail was meticulously considered, from the smooth, rounded finish of the bullnose patio steps to the crisp coping stones that capped the brickwork, creating a perfect marriage of traditional and modern materials. The project was completed with the laying of a pristine new turf lawn on the upper tier.

The Result

The final outcome is a complete transformation. The once-unusable slope is now a sophisticated and highly functional multi-level garden. The interplay between the warm, traditional brick and the cool, modern porcelain patio creates a dynamic and visually interesting space. The garden now offers a beautiful, durable, and elegant area for the homeowners to enjoy for decades to come, proving that a thoughtful design can turn a property's challenges into its greatest assets.
