Contemporary Drama in Abingdon
The client for this Abingdon home desired a complete transformation of their garden into a contemporary, ultra-low-maintenance space with a striking and dramatic aesthetic. The key requirement was for a garden that would not only look pristine during the day but would also become an atmospheric and inviting entertaining area in the evening.
The finished garden is a stunning example of modern, minimalist design. The bold contrast between the dark slate patio and the vibrant green lawn creates a powerful visual impact. By day, it is a chic and effortless space; by night, the strategic lighting transforms it into a beautifully illuminated, atmospheric retreat. It perfectly fulfils the client's vision for a dramatic, functional, and hassle-free garden.
Our Solution
To achieve the bold, modern look, our design centered on a powerful contrast of materials. We constructed a spacious patio using deep black charcoal slates, chosen for their dramatic colour and textured finish. This created a powerful and sophisticated anchor for the entire design.
For the lawn, we installed a premium Astroturf (artificial grass) surface. This provides a flawless, emerald-green look year-round, delivering the client's low-maintenance requirement without compromising on a pristine appearance.
The final layer of the design was the garden lighting. We developed a strategic lighting scheme to enhance the garden's features after dark. Uplighters were used to highlight the texture of the planting, while subtle, warm lights create a welcoming ambiance on the patio, making the space perfect for evening gatherings.
